Conservatives give more to charity. Truly, It's a Christian thing, you wouldn't understand. Maybe it is Charity vs Welfare thing. Two days left to give a deductable contribution.
The Gift helps the giver too, showing there is a connection between markets and charity. In any case, culture matters.
Krugman advocates for Britain's poverty policy. Too bad, he should advocate for Milton Friedman's: "Economic freedom, as advocated by Friedman for decades, is positively correlated with GNP per capita. Economic liberalization, as advocated by Friedman for decades, has resulted in dramatic increases in wealth and standards of living in Chile, China, India, Ireland, Estonia, and elsewhere."
